 Required Courses

 

OT 101 & 102  OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY 1 & 2[1]

These courses provide a foundational survey of the Old Testament. The purpose, distinctives, character, and broad outline of each book are presented to give a general grasp of the entire Old Testament.

 

OT 110  PENTATEUCH

The first five books of the Bible—dealing with Creation, the Fall, the Flood, and Jewish law and history through the Mosaic period—are explored. Practical applications of doctrinal and devotional truth are made for the student.

 

OT 120  HISTORICAL BOOKS

The history of the Hebrew nation, as recorded in the books of Joshua through Esther, is studied. Practical applications are developed from the lives of God’s Chosen People.

 

OT 130  POETICAL BOOKS

The books of poetry—Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon—are examined for the doctrinal and practical teaching they contain.

 

OT 140  MAJOR PROPHETS

The books Isaiah through Daniel are surveyed. The special messages of each of the five books and their contemporary and future implications are studied, stressing Messianic passages.

 

OT 150  MINOR PROPHETS

The books of Hosea through Malachi are surveyed. Each book is explored from both historical and prophetical perspectives.

 

NT 101 & 102  NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY 1 & 2[2]

These courses provide a foundational survey of the New Testament. The author, background, purpose, and general outline of each book are presented to give an overview.

 

NT 110  LIFE OF CHRIST

The events in the life of Christ, as recorded in one or more of the synoptic Gospels, are studied. His birth, ministry, passion, resurrection, and ascension are all explored.

NT 120  ACTS

This course focuses on the origin and development of the New Testament Church. Both devotional and historical analyses of the book are provided.

 

NT 130  PAUL’S LONGER EPISTLES

The books of Romans and I & II Corinthians are explored. Both doctrinal themes and practical applications to Christian living are discussed.

 

NT 140  PAUL’S SHORTER EPISTLES

The ten shorter epistles of Paul, Galatians through Philemon, are examined. Both doctrinal themes and practical applications to Christian living are discussed.

 

NT 180  HEBREWS[3]

The epistle to the Hebrews is examined. Emphasis is placed on doctrinal truths and practical applications derived from this epistle.

 

NT 150  GENERAL EPISTLES

This course surveys the letters written by James, Peter, and Jude. Attention is given to their historical setting, thematic development, and practical applications.

 

NT 160  JOHN’S WRITINGS

The Gospel and three epistles of John are studied. The discourses and miracles of Christ are expounded, and practical applications of the epistles to Christian living are explained.

 

NT 170  REVELATION

(alternate to BT 100, BT 101, or BT 102)

This course provides a chapter-by-chapter exposition of the book of Revelation, including an outline of prophetical events.

 

BT 100 or 101 or 102  BIBLE PROPHECY OVERVIEW or BIBLE PROPHECY 1 or 2

(alternate to REVELATION)

All major events from the coming of Christ to the Great White Throne Judgment are surveyed, including the Rapture, Tribulation, Millennium, resurrections, and judgments.

 

BT 110  BIBLE STUDY METHODS[4]

Practical methods of Bible study are introduced, and principles of Bible interpretation are stressed. A foundation concerning God’s appraisal of His eternal Word is laid. Students develop skills in independent Bible study.

Notable and illuminating discoveries in Bible lands, especially those made from 1800 to present, and their implication for Old Testament persons and events are discussed.

 

BE 021-029  BIBLE CHARACTER STUDIES

A Bible character is made the focus of an in-depth study. The historical context and life experiences of the character are explored, and practical applications to Christian living are developed. Past offerings include:

This course focuses on the messages and meanings of several of Jesus’ parables. Principles for analysis and understanding of the parables are presented and discussed.

This course focuses on the messages and meanings of several of Jesus’ miracles and parables. Principles for analysis and understanding of the miracles and parables are presented and discussed.
